International Women's Day in St. Kitts
This year’s March 8 Celebration in St. Kitts and Nevis will be held under the theme, “Equal Access to Education, Training and Science and Technology”. As part of the commemoration, the Government's Department of Gender Affairs will host a series of activities including the 8th annual Women’s Day Awards Ceremony which seeks to award women, "who have demonstrated exemplary achievements, discipline, vision and excellence and presentations in High Schools.” Additionally, a “Roving Display of Pioneering Women of St. Kitts” will also be launched.

St. Kitts and Nevis was in January 2011 listed as number 120 out of 133 countries when counting percentage of women in Parliament: (see http://www.ipu.org/wmn-e/classif.htm). At the recent National Economic Forum (February 2011), not a single female presenter was included. However, also European countries are struggling with the empowerment of women. For instance the wage gab in Denmark has in 2010 increased from 12% in 2009 to 13% in 2010 (see http://www.dr.dk/Nyheder/Penge/2011/03/08/095704.htm?rss=true).
